NM+U was engaged to lead the hotel branding and positioning for Night Hotels—a bold, limited-service lifestyle brand built for property conversions. The task: create a distinct brand identity that stands out in a saturated hospitality market while appealing to owners and developers seeking something fresh and unconventional.

Night Hotels needed more than just a name and logo. It required a full hotel brand development strategy that captured its rebellious spirit and differentiated it from traditional lifestyle hotels. The brand had to be instantly recognizable and scalable for growth across both primary and secondary markets.

Working closely with the Night Hotels team, NM+U developed a complete brand package grounded in three defining brand attributes: irreverent, social, and affordably styled. This included a unique tone of voice, a playful and daring visual identity, and a concept that reimagines the nostalgic charm of roadside motels for today’s travelers.
Night Hotels became the world’s first “NOTEL,” celebrating kitsch, creativity, music, and dive-bar edge—fueled by intelligent writing and eye-catching design.
The project scope included branding and positioning, brand look and feel, logo usage, website interface, comprehensive brand guidelines, and advertising—all crafted to drive franchise interest and long-term brand recognition.
