IHOP International, the beloved family-friendly restaurant chain with over 60 years of global success, set out to elevate the guest experience—especially for its youngest diners. Understanding that happy kids lead to happy parents, IHOP wanted a fresh way to create joy during and after the dining experience, encouraging family loyalty and return visits.
Challenge
IHOP charged NM+U with developing a loyalty program aimed at kids that would enhance their in-store experience while providing entertainment that extended beyond the restaurant. The program needed to align with IHOP’s brand promise of “Spreading Happiness,” feel genuinely engaging, and be highly shareable on social media to naturally support Instagram content and other digital platforms. The challenge was to deliver a concept that felt fun and immersive for children, while also supporting long-term growth campaigns and brand visibility.
Solution
NM+U created The Pancake Squad Kids Loyalty Program, a multi-faceted initiative that brought together in-store activations and a feature-rich mobile app. Designed to delight kids and encourage family interaction, the app included augmented reality, interactive games, a photo booth, and a variety of entertaining content. By giving kids a fun squad to join and experiences to share, the program not only created meaningful memories but also fostered organic social media marketing opportunities and long-term brand engagement.
